Singapore-Malaysia Border Rules - Things to Know

Things to Know While Crossing Singapore-Malaysia Border
Following the reopening of Singapore and Malaysia land borders for fully vaccinated travellers on 1 April,
Both Singapore and Malaysia have relaxed travel restrictions for fully vaccinated travellers from Apr 1, 2022. Post that the Singapore bus operators (SBS Transit Ltd, SMRT Buses Ltd and Transtar Travel Pte Ltd), together with the Land Transport Authority (LTA), resumed the cross-border bus services, private vehicles, and taxi operations from 1 May 2022. Before taking the Singapore-Malaysia bus, travellers need to abide by the following rules -
Rules for Entering Singapore
- Must have Passport (valid for at least 6 months), Vehicle Entry Permits
- Fully vaccinated travellers and children aged 12 and below, are permitted to enter Singapore without any restrictions of testing and quarantine.
- Fully vaccinated travellers and non-fully vaccinated children aged 12 and below no longer be require to take a pre-departure test (PDT) and unsupervised self-administered Antigen Rapid Test (ART) after arriving in Singapore, nor serve a Stay-Home Notice (SHN).
- Travellers who are fully vaccinated need not apply for entry approvals such as Vaccinated Travel Pass. Obtain proof of vaccination and upload vaccination certificate onto the Vaccination Portal. Download the TraceTogether app and register your profile
- Motorists travelling to Singapore must ensure that their vehicles comply with the emissions requirements in Singapore.
- To enter Singapore, everyone (including Singapore citizens, permanent residents and long term pass holders) has to complete their SG Arrival Card within 3 days of arriving at the checkpoint. This card contains health, trip and personal details. You have to update your digital vaccination certificate for verification while filling out this card.
- It is not required for fully vaccinated short term visitors to Singapore to have travel insurance for covid-19 related treatment and hospitalisation costs.
- Non-vaccinated travellers will have to undergo covid testing. Check official website for more info.
Rules for Entering Malaysia
- Passport (valid for at least 6 months)
- As per Mysafetravel website, from 1st August 2022, all travellers are allowed to enter Malaysia regardless of their COVID-19 vaccination status and do not require a pre-departure or on-arrival COVID-19 test. There are no quarantine orders related to COVID-19 enforced by the Malaysian Government upon arrival.Malaysians do not require any approvals from authorities to enter Malaysia.
- Effective 1 April 2022, non-Malaysians may also enter Malaysia without prior approval from the Malaysian authorities. MyTravelPass / MyEntry are no longer needed.
- Hong Kong and Macao passport holders can enter Malaysia borders without a visa and stay for up to 30 days.
- Foreigners traveling to Malaysia no longer have to complete a COVID-19 health declaration form before entering the country.
- If you are going to Malaysia and happen to be a foriegn tourist, download the MySejahtera App on your phone. After downloading, register, and activate your account.
- To be considered fully vaccinated, 14 days must have passed since the second dose of Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Sinopharm, or Sputnik V vaccines, or 28 days must have passed after one dose of Johnson & Johnson and CanSino vaccines.
- According to Malaysia's MySafeTravel website, travellers who develop COVID-19 symptoms while in Malaysia should get tested and if found to be positive, are subject to undergo isolation via a Home Surveillance Order (HSO) for seven (7) days. Individuals can be released from isolation on the 4th, 5th or 6th day when they are asymptomatic and the result of an RTK Ag test supervised by a registered medical practitioner is negative. Discharge on the 7th day does not require any COVID-19 detection test.
- As per the Consulate General of Malaysia, effective from 1 May 2022, the earlier required Covid-19 insurance is no longer required for travellers entering Malaysia.
