The completion of the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link is poised to meet its December 2026 deadline, as confirmed by Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CEO of MRT Corp, Mohd Zarif Hashim, emphasized the critical role of its subsidiary, Malaysia Rapid Transit System Sdn Bhd, in maintaining the project’s pace in line with the bilateral agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the latest updates, follow FMT’s Telegram channel. Hashim pointed out the significant milestone of finishing the connective stretch, which unites the maritime viaducts of the two countries, in a recent press briefing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As of December 31, 2023, the 4km RTS Link project had achieved 65% completion, surpassing the anticipated 57% goal. This link joins the Bukit Chagar station in Johor Bahru with the Woodlands North station in Singapore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the celebration event marking the completion of the RTS Link’s connective segment, Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook announced that the project had attained a 68% completion rate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Furthermore, Zarif underscored the project\u2019s importance in boosting the national transport network by creating a fluid cross-border passage, thereby improving service for the populace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He expressed gratitude towards the federal government for their backing and contributions to the fruition of the RTS Link.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It has been projected that the RTS Link will accommodate 35% of the daily 350,000 Causeway commuters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Currently, the shuttle bus service from the Sultan Iskandar customs, immigration, and quarantine complex to Singapore can take anywhere from 45 minutes to four hours, traffic-dependent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zarif is determined to cut this journey down to a mere 15 minutes with the RTS Link.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis quarter-hour journey is from the moment you step into Bukit Chagar station until you arrive at Woodlands North station,\u201d Zarif clarified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The light rail service is designed to handle a capacity of 10,000 passengers per hour each way at peak times.
